Synopsis

This chapter explores the evolution of the communication field in Latin America, emphasizing the historical tension between professional practice and intellectual production. It examines the causes of fragmentation, the influence of external theoretical models, technological developments, and labor precarization. The chapter also highlights Latin American contributions such as alternative, popular, and social change communication, advocating for a rigorous, contextual, and ethical communicational perspective that bridges practice and theory in the region.
