The Visual Representation of the Youth of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC)
Synopsis
Chapter 4 explores how the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC) constructs the visual representation of its youth through images shared on social media. By analyzing three visual pieces, the chapter shows how the organization uses imagery as a political, cultural, and pedagogical tool. The author highlights that these representations portray young people as active political subjects, carriers of historical memory, and vital actors in sustaining the CRIC’s collective project. The chapter also notes that CRIC’s communication practices strengthen internal identity and autonomy, while facing the challenge of expanding their external visibility amid dominant media frames that often misrepresent the movement.
